Das venöse convolut der beckenhöhle beim manne
Vienna, Braumüller, 1871.
Folio, (4), 24 and 4 plates ; original orange printed cartonnage. Item #3824
A very rare copy of this study on the vascularisation of the male pelvic region by the Hungarian pioneer anatomist, neurologist and anthropologist József von Lenhossék.
It is inscribed by the author to Paul Broca, with the latter’s book plate. The dedication is dated 1875.
The connection between Lenhossek and Broca is particularly interesting because from 1875 Lenhossek conducted anthropological studies on artificial deformities, macrocephalic skulls, and craniometry of skeletons from old English, Roman and Celtic graves. He calculated skull-indices by measuring 50 parameters in 76 skulls and 265 heads and is recognised as the founder of physical anthropology in Hungary.
A rare pamphlet by a great anatomist and a fine association copy between two important early anthropologists.
