First editions of these two studies on strabismus by the French surgeon Lucien Boyer (1808-1890), illustrated with 12 plates showing the various steps of strabismus surgery and the instruments used.
Lucien Boyer considers the different surgical treatments applied to strabismus based on a hundred case studies.
« The idea of remedying strabismus by the myotomy [of the medial rectus muscle] was inspired by the anatomical research of Stromeyer (1838). To Dieffenbach belongs the honor of having introduced the operation into surgical practice (1838-1840) but it is fair to recall that Florent Cunier performed myotomies at the same time time […]. Following the works of Bonnet de Lyon and Lucien Boyer (1842-43), myotomy was replaced by tenotomy [surgical act which involves the division of a tendon]… » (Dr. H.
